The Philosophy/Rationale of Mathematics
It is the purpose of Doniphan R-1 Mathematics
Curriculum to strive to teach all students in a way that they realize the
usefulness of mathematics and how they can apply it to their everyday lives.
The objectives for the Doniphan R-1 math
curriculum are for students to become problem solvers, communicators, and
reasoners so they can value math and be confident in their mathematical
capabilities. The mathematics curriculum moves students from manipulation
objects to symbols and finally into ideas.
Doniphan R-1 Believes math is a unique
communications system that focuses on the following goals: allowing students to
become accurate problem solvers, teaching students to communicate mathematically
as a natural act, helping learn to reason mathematically, and encouraging
students to value math and become confident of their own math ability.
