It was suggested and agreed upon by board members to try to resell the products at the next school activity or return the products to the sponsor without loss.
The prizes for the top 3 sellers will be scheduled and announced a later time and close to wrapping up the fall fund-raiser outstanding issues.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Mrs. Hesselroth was unable to attend PTAmeeting due to Town Meeting scheduled at same time.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
November Movie Night was a success. Approximately 35 children and adults attended. One Walkman was raffled and Popcorn and Drinks were sold for $.25. The movie shown was “Recess: School’s Out.” Will try to provide more announcements and give more notice for upcoming events to get more participants. PTA representation: Royce Carson, Sharon Payne, and Karenina Walls.
Nov. 3rd - Skating Party - Turnout was small. Approximately 20 people. The small crowd may have been contributed to the number of events planned back-to-back. PTA Representation: Royce Carson.
Popcorn Popper Investment- President,Royce Carson suggested the investment and purchase of a Popcorn Popper, purchased by PTA and donated to Truman to be used for various activities incentives, classroom parties, etc. throughout the year. Approximate cost $400.00. It was decided to review the topic again after the first of the year and after the year-end budget has been reviewed. TABLED TO JANUARY MEETING.
Grandparents’ Day for 5th grade students was held. Good participation, but not appropriate placement for PTA Membership Drive. PTA Representation: Sharon Payne.
UPCOMING EVENTS
December Movie Night to be discussed with Principal Hesselroth. Suggested movie: Snow Day. If approved, will plan to hold the earlier part of December, before holiday season begins.
(Added Note to Royce and PTA members: We could also consider “The Grinch” since its going on video soon and if the “rating” is within guidelines.)
PTA CONVENTION REPORT
As reported by PTA representation, Barb Hughey. Barb attended the PTA Convention that was held in October in Springfield, Missouri. The Theme was “Every Child / One Voice”. Barb Hughey shared a room with Hickman Mills PTA Council member, Kerry Rory, who has been assigned by the H.M. Council as the Truman School Buddy. Kerry will begin attending meetings, and will be able to answer questions, provide guidelines, etc. as set by the council beginning next month. Also attending the convention were Gov. Bob Holden and Sen. Kit Bond amongst the many speakers.
It was announced at the convention that an HIV-Aids Grant for $500.00 was available but was not awarded since there wasn’t any interest from any of the district committees. Sharon Payne and Gayle Campbell will look into making application for the grant for next year’s distribution.
Watch for petition on Legislation for Children (Getting things done for children) to help get rid of the 2/3 majority voting (or 25%).
Ssession “And the Winners Are” discussed various ides for room parties outside of the room. For instance room parties in the gym which could involve more than one classroom. Two packets of information have been provided from the program.
ROUND ROBIN
ALL SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES / RECOGNITION DISPLAY
Several members indicated an interest in having the school provide “all school assemblies” for recognition of good behavior (good citizenship awards), Perfect and Almost Perfect Attendance Awards, and Good grades. The topic will need to be discussed with Principal Hesselroth and may not be able to take place this year. Will review and discuss at next meeting as well as a recognition display of honorees, etc. in the front lobby. Both items are being considered as effort help raise the school spirit. TABLED TO DECEMBER MEETING.
SCHOOL INCENTIVES
Another effort to raiase school spirit would be the possibility of having school incentives i.e. “I caught you” as done by neighbor school. This program is an incentive for good behavior or a good act or for other special reasons and involves ALL kids, teachers, and the principal. A box is left in the hallway, names of students are elected by the teachers, then drawn at various times throughout the year. Winning candidates are awarded by having a school lunch with the Principal.
CALENDAR OF EVENTS
In an effort to raise more parent / student participation, we have decided to create a PTA calendar of events to announce the various planned activities and as a means to provide additional source and notice for parents. TABLED TO DECEMBER MEETING.
COMMITTEES
Various members expressed the need to have several committees formed to assist with the many activities and events planned by the PTA. This would help eliminate the problems with one member having to perform all the work. It was suggested that we agree and decide on PTA representation prior to the events being held. Donations is one of the many areas that currently needs help. We are looking at various measures to get more participation. TABLED TO DCEMBER MEETING.
YEARBOOK / SCHOOL PICTURES
Members discussed the possibility of new provider for school portraits and will review outsourcing a company to prepare Yearbook. The goal is to have a plan into place at beginning of 2nd semester. In the past, Teri, Truman’s Secretary has prepared the Yearbook. TABLED TO DECEMBER MEETING.
PERSONAL SAFETY NIGHT
PTA representative, Sharon Payne, made a suggestion for a Personal Safety Program / Safety Night. Brenda Haupt, Police Officer in the South Division would come out and talk about various safety measures with the children free of charge. Could also do fingerprinting.
TRUMAN STAFF AT DECEMBER MEETING
In an effort to get more involvement from the Truman Staff, it was suggested by President Royce Carson, you are encouraged to invite your child’s teacher to our December Meeting.
STAFF BIRTHDAYS - NOVEMBER
