Comprehensive School Improvement Plan

I.          Planning Process

            The members of the CSIP review team are representatives of the community, staff, and students.  These members are invited from the various subcommittees at the district and building level.  At the district level, the Community Liaison Committee, which is a composed of a cross representation geographically, occupationally, and educationally of the school district.  The entire committee, 20 members, is requested to assist with the review of the CSIP.  Representatives from all facility levels, along with special services representatives, make up the district advisory committee and they represent the staff on the CSIP review team.  Student representatives from different building level and district level organizations/committees are invited to serve on the CSIP review team.  The overall committee is composed of approximately 45 individuals that meet in smaller groups.

            Review and updates to the CSIP continues to be done yearly.  The beliefs and vision are reviewed by the community, students, and board members.  The mission statement is reviewed to reflect the beliefs and vision.  The internal/external factors are gathered and reviewed by district personnel and then shared with the community.  From the discussion, the objectives for the district are reviewed and revised as needed.  Strategies to reach the objectives are reviewed and/or established, along with the action plan for the strategy.

II.         Beliefs

            Lathrop R-II believes that:

  1. school should be a positive influence;
  2. all students should reach their potential;
  3. every person is responsible for himself/herself;
  4. there should be a shared responsibility between the student, teacher, and parent.

Vision

We envision that students will:

  1. value education;
  2. continue to be life long learners;
  3. be responsible, productive citizens in their community;
  4. hold high personal and educational expectations.

III.       Mission Statement

            The Lathrop R-II School District is dedicated to educate, inspire and challenge all students to strive for excellence.

IV.       District analysis to determine strengths and weaknesses

            Assessment data was gathered, both from internal and external sources, to help determine the areas that had been met and those that still need to be addressed.  Internally, the committee members looked at, and discussed data from: MAP test results, disaggregated Clear Access results from special populations, the district’s AYP and APR (and their sub parts), PDC needs assessment, curriculum, resource information, drug and alcohol surveys, information from surveys/questionnaires, library media standards, technology plan, and short and long-term facility needs.  Other areas that were considered by the committee were: population changes, advances in technology, state and federal program requirements, Show-Me Standards, MSIP requirements, and changes at the state level in funding and legal requirements.

            After the completion of the data analysis, committee members identified the following strengths.

  • Student achievement has, at the majority of grade levels, improved.
  • District employs staff members that are caring and enthusiastic about the students and community.
  • The district has allocated resources to maintain small class sizes at the elementary level.
  • Resources have also been allocated for professional development for staff members.
  • Community support has increased.
  • Curriculum is continually updated and includes technology throughout all subject areas and at all levels.
  • All teachers meet the highly qualified requirements established by NCLB.
  • Facility upgrades and renovations are being addressed

            The areas of weakness that were identified by committee members and will need to be addressed are the following.

  • Improve student achievement at the middle level and throughout the district in the area of math.
  • Continually strive to improve instruction.
  • Need for new facilities.
  • Continue to upgrade and renovate existing facilities.
  • Need to adapt curriculum, graduation requirements, and resource allocations as a result of new state requirements and legislative action.
  • Size and resources of the library/media center.
  • Educate community, staff, and students on diversity needs.

Lathrop R-II School District Objectives

Through regular review and update, the following objectives will guide the establishment of yearly goals at the district and building level.

  1. Meet the academic percentage requirements established by NCLB
  2. Achieve “Distinction in Performance”
  3. Exceed the state and national averages on the ACT test
  4. Reach and maintain an average daily attendance (ADA) rate of 96% at all grade levels
  5. Students will read at grade level
  6. Provide a positive learning environment for staff and students that incorporates open communication and diversity awareness among staff, students, and the community.

Following are the strategies the district will incorporate to achieve the objectives.  Action steps for the strategies will be reviewed and revised yearly.  Unless otherwise designated, the funding sources are from state and local funds.
