COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

 

KINDERGARTEN-SECOND GRADE

Using developmental activities and games, students will learn fundamental motor skills.  Manipulative activities will enhance eye-hand coordination and eye-foot coordination.  Rhythm and gymnastics will improve balance and gross motor abilities.  Personal fitness will start each student on a life time of healthy personal choices

 

THIRD-FOURTH GRADES

Using developmental activities and games students will begin to develop a basic understanding of organized games.  Manipulative activities will enable students to participate at a higher level of organized games.  Rhythm and gymnastics will carry over to organized games and they can be enjoyed as an activity on their own.  Personal fitness can become a challenge to each student as they try to improve their scores.  Leisure activities start to develop from knowledge of earlier games.  Social awareness and sportsmanship become a strong point for each student.

 

FIFTH GRADE

Fitness activities become a major part of the fifth grade curriculum.  A life time of personal fitness and healthy choices is stressed at this time.  Sport skills and related activities are stressed.  Many sports are played with the hope that at least one will be interesting to each student.  This could help them lead a healthier lifestyle as they reach adulthood.

 

SIXTH-EIGHT GRADE

The requirements include a wide variety of activities from physical fitness to lifetime leisure sports.  Each activity is allotted a two – three week block of time for the purpose of introducing the activity, demonstrating the basic skills needed, describing basic necessary equipment, rules, scoring and strategy.

 

HIGH SCHOOL

Physical Education is the phase of education concerned with teaching skills, knowledge and attitudes in activities concerned primarily with body movement.  Physical education will include physical development, motor skills, rules of the game, social development and intellectual development.  Required of freshman.  Elective for sophomores, juniors and seniors.

MARCH-  Physical Fitness Test, Mile, Push Ups, Sit Ups, Sit and Reach, Shuttle Run

 

APRIL-  Floor Hockey
