This is
Louie. Louie runs 4 miles with Mrs. Mathys every morning. He
is a cute mutt from the Central Missouri Humane Society- some sort of mix
between a beagle, collie, & hound. He finds great joy in chasing
and treeing squirrels and insists on sleeping on Mr. Mathys's pillow every
night.
|
This is
Millie. She loves Mr. Mathys to the point of annoyance, at times.
She is the Queen dog of our house and keeps the others in line. She
is a mix of a million different breeds - with some obvious hints of blue
heeler - and also came to us from the Humane Society. She has often
been known to kill a stray bird that ventures into our yard.
|
This
is Sophie. Sophie is the low dog on the totem pole, according to
our little pack of furry mammals. She is loyal and sweet, and a bit
overweight; but she thinks she's still small enough to jump into your lap
to cuddle. She is another treasure from the Humane Society and is
a mix of a Newfoundland and a Lab. She has a pathological fear
of thunderstorms, just like the dog in Mrs. Mathys's favorite book, Because
of Winn Dixie.

This is
Skeeter. He is the meanest cat in the world. He hates to be
petted. The Mathys's acquired this little grey bundle of joy one
summer in the state of Louisiana. Mr. Mathys wanted to surprise Mrs.
Mathys with a cat, so he picked out Skeeter and managed to hide the dear
thing from his mother for several weeks. Skeeter survived a 12 hour
trip from Louisiana to Missouri while traveling in a laundry basket.

This is
Chaser, one of the largest cats living in Missouri. (We try not to
use that terrible F-word "FAT" around his sensitive ears!) He has
beautiful blue eyes and LOVES to be petted - especially if he can sit in
your lap while you are wanting to do something else. He also came
to us from the Humane Society.
|
This is
Truman, named for the mascot for the University of Missouri. He loves
to instigate fights with the other animals in the house, and enjoys a game
of chase with Sophie, from time to time. He has a strong attachment
to Mr. Mathys, often crawling into his lap for attention; but he doesn't
always appreciate petting from Mrs. Mathys. He also was rescued from
the Humane Society.

Growing Up...
Mrs. Mathys
always wanted to have pets - cats...dogs...the fuzzier the better!!
However, her mom didn't share that same love of animals and often said,
"Someday when you are grown up and have your own house, you can have all
the pets you want." So, that's exactly how it has turned out.
Mrs. Mathys often recites that quote back to her mother as her mom groans
about all the critters she has acquired!! |
"I've
always wanted a St. Bernard!!" Mrs. Mathys has said on many occasions.
This is Sadie, the most recent addition to the Mathys Animal Collection.
She is an AKC Registered St. Bernard (the short-haired kind) and the Mathys's
look forward to watching her GROW and GROW
and GROW!
